As promised in this post
, I'm back to share with you some of my favorite makeup/beauty items I use almost daily. I say almost, because let's face it, I don't always get ready. Some days lend themselves to just hanging out in your p.j's without doing up your face..
So let's begin!
I'm so proud of this little caddy I found at the Container Store.
I'm not sure if it was made for makeup and tools used to apply makeup, but it sure is handy for my routine. I love it because it inspired me to clean out my very unorganized drawers and it's kept my bathroom sink and counter super CLEAN. My sweet husband must appreciate the change. A quick note about what's sitting on top:
- Vitamin E oil for my cuticles. Having conditioned cuticles helps lengthen the life of your manicure and makes your nails grow strong and pretty.
- Epsom Salts are excellent for bath-time following a gruesome workout and helps tighten your skin! I learned somewhere online that Jessica Alba takes a 30 minute epsom salt bath every day. When I was competing, I made sure to take these baths for the entire week leading up to competition.
-Dolce & Gabana Light Blue has been my perfume of choice for several years now. I use this perfume for special days or dates. When choosing your signature scent...Listen to the people around you, they will let you know if the perfume you are wearing is working for THEM!! Don't get me wrong, I love the smell of this perfume - LOVE LOVE LOVE it, but to me the smell quickly goes away. I'm always encouraged when someone mentions they love the smell too, it means two things : 1. I am not stinky 2. The perfume still smells good.
- Balance is key in life, so I have adopted a second less fancy perfume for normal days. Anthropologie carries Original Scent Eau De Parfum
- I love this. It smells clean but has a musky feel to it and it just makes me happy.
Okay so onto the goods inside..
A! Absolute! Cleansing tissues with Vitamin E are perfect for travels or for when you don't want to climb in the shower to grab your cleanser from when you left it in there the last time you cleaned your face. Day or night, these are just so convenient. I get these at TJ Maxx, which I like because I'm all about getting the Max for the Minimum and I'm proud to say I am a Maxxinista!
I use my Nerium AD Day Cream first following a nice cleaning. Once the cream dries, I put on my sunscreen. I love the sunscreen Obagi makes, it protects from the harmful rays and also has a skin lightener in it. I NEVER leave the house without sunscreen on my face, NEVER! SOAP BOX: just because the day isn't sunny, doesn't mean you will be safe from the sun's harmful rays. In fact, I have heard the rays that hit you on a cloudy day are STRONGER than the ones you feel on a sunny day.
Once I have my creams on, I make sure to apply a good eye-shadow primer to my eyelids. I use Urban Decay and have nothing but good things to say about it.
I like to put my eye-shadow and eye-liner on first before anything else, that way once it's all applied, I can clean up all the shadow and eyeliner that fell below my eye and onto my cheeks. It's cleaner going this route. I LOVE: Too Faced Matte Eye or Romantic Eye. I always use the darkest eye-shadow as my first layer of eyeliner. I follow up my line with either a pencil or I use this little gem I found at Target:
Using a thin eye-liner brush, I find powdered eyeliner much easier to control and just wears better than liquid or from a pencil.
I received this awesome contouring palette from It Cosmetics
while competing at Mrs. America in 2010. I'm still using it! I will refrain from showing you what's inside as it's pretty bare and hardly there. Testimony to how much I love it!! I need to buy a new set. I like the whites in this for highlighting my brow line and I use the whites under my eyes, around my nose and over my top lip. The back of the palette shows you exactly where to place what color, which helps if you don't want to look like a zombie or clown. I use this before I put on my foundation.
Once I have my shadow on and contouring is set in place, I grab my foundation. My TEMPTU foundation is something I use for special occasions or in the winter. It's pretty dry in Colorado and I have found this gives me a bit more moisture and makes my skin tone look pretty uniform and even. I prefer using Bare Minerals foundation during the summer, it's light and a little fresher than the air brushed Temptu foundation.
I always put on bronzing powder, no matter what season we are in. If I'm using mineral foundation, I use powder bronzer with my big bronzing brush and place it on the outer sides of my face making a c and backwards c on respective sides. If I'm using my airbrush foundation, I use the airbrush bronzer and blush.
Once my foundation, bronzer and blush are in place, I dust my face lightly with a translucent powder. I love MAC and Jane Iredale. My last step in putting on my face is MASCARA. Now, I switch brands quite a bit in this category. I haven't felt the need to be loyal to just one as of yet. Right now, I use Too Faced Better than False Lashes. This stuff really does a great job lengthening and thickening your lash. It's a three step process but well worth the time. This picture also shows my lash conditioner
I've found to work just as good if not better than Latisse. Grande Lash - MD cost me $40 from Amazon and one tube lasts for at least three months. I have stopped using my eyelash curler now that my lashes have grown so well with this conditioner. My lashes pre-grande lash were pretty thin and straight. Not the case these days.
Thanks for stopping by again. I love sharing what works for me in my life. I would love to hear your thoughts, any questions you might have, anything. Please submit a comment!
Until next time!
